Therapist Websites Using Squarespace in 2023
A roundup of our favorite therapist website designs in 2023!
This year brought big changes to our business (new brand, new name, new site, new business model!) but as always we were thankful to get to create designs for some new clients, as well as help some repeat clients update their sites with a fresh new look and fresh content.
Social Work Racial Justice Alliance (SWRJA)
Services: Brand & Website Design & Development | Writing Support
Of all the sites I created in 2023, this one means the most to me. First, I collaborated with my friend and past client SuMing Sullivan. And second I got to contribute to a cause I care deeply about. This was a pro bono project and it sparked the desire to contribute more of my time to pro bono projects for social justice nonprofits in the coming year.
And then there was the sheer joy and fun of this project! The shapes, the colors, the imagery. SWRJA wanted something vibrant, inviting, modern, and polished and those words are music to my ears. I hope for all good things for SWRJA. Please check them out!
Melissa Janosek Site Refresh
Services: Brand Design | Website Design & Development | Writing Support
Melissa is another repeat client and we created her site the first time in 2019. She felt like it was time for a little update to reflect how her practice has evolved. I always feel honored when clients return and love being able to translate their growth into updated visuals. Here’s how we revamped her site.
ORIGINAL
NEW!
I love working with Melissa because she does not shy away from the bright and the bold (which fits her personality perfectly).
Probably the first two things you’ll notice about this update are the colors and the length of the page being quite different!
When we first created Melissa’s site, her private practice was very new. Over the course of a few years she has gotten crystal clear on the scope of her practice and because of that, she was able to say what she wanted to say to them in far fewer words.
For colors, we went deeper, richer, brighter, and bolder! Again, a reflection of where she is in her life as a private practice therapist, as well as an update to reflect a more modern color palette.
I love that Melissa has the mindset of doing these site refreshes every so often. It’s not only great for SEO (to show that your business is active) but more importantly it’s great for her to be able to attract the clients she loves to work with, and build the practice she truly wants!
Lotus Embodied Counseling: Site Update
Services: Brand Design | Website Design & Development | Writing Support
Another repeat client that I was so lucky to work with this year is Lotus Embodied Counseling. Though we just developed the site in 2022, the founder, Sharnise Hendrick, partnered with a co-founder, Carly Falk to expand their offerings both into a group practice with multiple providers AND a whole trauma training and consultation program for therapists.
Talk about a big year!
This site was such a joy to work on because I loved the brand we initially developed and we decided to stick with it while folding in the new aspects of the practice seamlessly.
The challenge of this project was creating a navigation that works just as well for their therapy clients as it does for their therapist clients. We created a new home page and coded in an interactive split navigation (a first for me, and I love how it came out!). Please visit their updated site. And especially if you want to learn more about their trauma training offerings for therapists!
Laura Stein Therapy
Services: Brand & Web Design & Development | Writing Support
Another fun, colorful design, this time for a new-to-me client, Laura Stein. I was so excited to work with Laura because she was looking to create a site that would differentiate her LGBTQ-focused private therapy practice from her role as a cantor. She wanted something simple that would speak to her ideal client and give them the perfect platform to contact her for psychotherapy.
Laura had a clear vision for her site which is always awesome as a designer and I hope she’ll become a repeat client too!
Dr. Janet Robertson
Services: Brand & Web Design & Development | Writing Support
This lovely site is for another new client, Dr. Janet Robertson, a couple’s therapist in New Hampshire. Janet originally used my Free Website Template for Therapists and decided she wanted more support in bringing her vision fully to life. She already had great brand photos and had even created video content!
I love taking one of my templates and helping clients grow from there! We design our templates to be versatile and easy to transform to fit your needs.
She wanted a modern, clean, calming, open, airy aesthetic to help her clients understand her offerings. As with all my client’s this year, Janet used my Writing Guide to shape the copy and then I helped with making refinements.
Dr. Anne Welsh
Services: Web Development | Writing Support
I was thrilled to get to work with Dr. Anne Welsh again. She is a former colleague from my therapist days, one of my first web design clients(!), and an inspirational person to me. She is a mother of 4 (!) and yet is super grounded, motivated in her career, and always doing something new. Because of that we have worked together a few times to add pages to her site. But this year was a biggie!
For this project, we collaborated with Liz Phillips of H+H Creative brand designer extraordinaire! Liz and I have collaborated on a bunch of projects, and I refer folks to her all the time. She creates gorgeous brands (think full suites of logos, secondary logos, print products, graphics, colors, fonts and more) and that’s why I entrust my clients to her wholeheartedly!
Here’s a little before and after for you, because we love a transformation:
ORIGINAL
NEW!
Though much of her brand heart is the same (the same earthy tones and natural feel), the redesign gave it a greater level of refinement and sophistication that matches the skill and expertise that Anne brings to everything she does.
I felt so lucky to be able to put this site together because I had all of these beautiful pieces to assemble (which is a strength of mine–I may not be the world’s most competent logo designer but damnit, I can organize a website like nobody’s business!) .
Anne completed the writing prompts and I helped her refine, and Liz created an incredible brand for Anne to expand into. All I had to do was create the layout and the custom code!
Dr. Shiri Cohen
Services: Brand & Website Design & Development | Writing Support
Shiri is another new client this year. We actually crossed paths without realizing it, back when I was a therapist working at Mass General Hospital! So we had that as a connection point from the very start.
Shiri had recently opened a practice in Pennsylvania and needed a website to help reach clients in this new market. The theme of her site is “illumination” which is a word we came up with during her branding process and it’s why you see lights threaded throughout her site.
Both a brilliant therapist and an academic at heart we wanted to display both sides of her–the empathy and the intellect. I’m so happy with how this one came out and just loved getting to know Shiri.
We hope this post inspires your private practice web design!
Therapy websites do not have to be just one thing anymore. Your clients are drawn in when you express yourself and we hope you can see that modeled in all the variations we’ve shown today!
