Blue & Green Ocean-Inspired Therapy Website
Sometimes simple is better.
In fact, it’s kind of my whole thing lately! I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about how we interact with content online these days, as I talk about in this post, Write Less and Say More. In meeting with Catie of Catie Hunter Counseling we realized that for where they are in their business, it made more sense to create a site that was a great foundation to grow and build from as the practice evolves.
The Design Process
Catie’s goals for their website design were to create something calming, to show their creativity, and connect with potential clients. We developed a theme around the ocean without literal references, by using wavy backgrounds, curved image shapes, and beach glass colors. We developed a brand font system, graphics, and supplemental stock photos.
The color palette was based upon the photo from their office, that had a lot to draw from (and is kind of like abstract beach glass).
Even though it’s brief and to the point, this website is multi-purpose as it speaks to both individuals and couples. We used some “accordion” effects to reduce visual clutter and allow the user to only read through information that is relevant to them.
We, of course, created the site with SEO and accessibility best practices in mind. And this was my first site design using predominantly the new Fluid Engine (Squarespace’s latest editor that is truly “drag and drop”). It is a hybrid of the Classic Editor and the newer one (and it’s pretty cool that you can mix them!). Using Fluid Engine, it made it a breeze to create a beautiful and balanced mobile version of the site.

The Writing Process
We co-created the writing for the site using my copywriting guide for therapists (which is available with every website template purchase in our shop!).
I really appreciated the collaborative nature of this project and how we were able to identify Catie’s business needs, and switch up our original plan of a multi-page site. I know this site will continue to serve them as their practice evolves!
